So here is a scary fact I just ran into that I figured I should share. I dont know if this topic belongs here but feel free to move it as you like...moderator gods and godesses.

Anyway I thought I would share for woman who travel (and men who travel with their girlfriends/wives) and take the pill should be aware that travellers diarrhea can seriously interfere with the effects of the pill. Same with vomiting.
I heard this from a fellow woman traveller that found herself knocked up after a bout of sickness and then a yay-Im-better party with her husband. She was on the pill and took it same time every day and couldnt figure it out...finally her doctor asked her if she had been sick and she said yes and then it was a big "doh".
So I just thought I would spread the word as to maybe keep any "accidents" at bay.

Any kind of stomach upset can lead to that really. Anything that will interfere with your body's ability to absorb a pill you swallow will decrease its effectiveness. It's one of the biggest reasons why women get pregnant on the pill. It's also one of the biggest advantages of implants: they bypass your digestive system.

The other big thing that might make your birth control pills ineffective, is antibiotics. If you take them, watch out. You might not be as infertile as you might hope.

My God.......I never knew those things. Eek

I take bc very seriously, I don't know why I'd never heard about vomiting/diarrhea interfering with effectiveness.

I called my gynecologist when I had gastricenteritis (stomach flu) because I couldn't keep my pills (or anything) down for a few days. She told me that if this ever happens again that I could insert a pill (like a suppository) and it would be absorded through the vaginal walls. This is best done before you go to sleep, less chance of it slipping out. I also used the Nuvaring for a while. Took some time to get used to, but I eventually liked it.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!! don't forget the 7 day rule after having had runs or vomits, if you take it and then expel it then it counts as a missed day and the pill reccomends that you use the protection for 7 days as it will not regain full effectiveness until then!! (p.s are condoms cheap in europe?)

My little nick is the way to go.

You might even be able to ply the other one enough grog while partying, that a little snip yourself and he probably would not even know when he awoke.
