I don't know how it works in England, but I went to my local insurance broker - the same company that had my parents house and car insurance. She hooked me up with a plan that cost $14 and had this insanely huge coverage for when I was in Antarctica. We needed all this special evacuation stuff, because being evacuated from Antarctica can cost millions of dollars depending on how it all plays out... so I had an excellent, comprehensive plan and the person who was helping me out had checked with a bunch of different sources and sort of 'comparison shopped'.
