Hi Smills,

Lesotho was lovely and somehow so unexpected - a little mountain country completely surrounded by South Africa - and yet so different from it.

I was in the village of Malealea and did pony treks from there. Great horses! Very easy to ride. I was there a few years ago, though, but here's the www.malealea.com.

Good luck and have fun.
Sophie

Delightful article, Anne-Sophie! I lived in Lesotho for two years, and it's a delight to see it again through your eyes. If you haven't read it, get yourself a copy of Singing Away the Hunger, to get a woman's point of view on life in Lesotho. Last year a group of American, South African, and Basotho college students created a remarkable theatre project in Malealea--on "Gossip, Silence, and HIV/AIDS" and the work is still going on. I don't have a web site for it, but anyone involved in theatre who'd like to consider joining a group of singing, dancing, improvising theatre artists for good work in Lesotho can contact Lucy.Winner@esc.edu . I'll also alert Katie at Volunteer Logue to this lead.

Thanks Grannygold.

I really enjoyed that little country and would love to go back. I'll be sure to read the book you recommended.
