This article is absolutely hilarious!

I've been living in The Hague for the past 6 months and I sympathize entirely with the events in this article. Unless you're out for a sun/windburn, Scheveningen is better in the evening, particularly if you like being able to move. It has a much better atmosphere when it's a bit cooler, the beach clears out, and the buildings are lit up. It's more suitable for romantic walks on the beach around then (unsurprisingly).

As for the 'serious' feel of The Hague, though I think they were aiming for sophisticated, I think they started with aloof and in the end could only manage cold and unfriendly. You can do whatever you want, but keep to yourself. Heaven forbid you might try to strike up a conversation or to make new friends, or worse yet; go into one of the stores, cafes or restaurants and expect some service!

That said, The Hague (Den Haag) is a beautiful city to walk around for a day (even in the rain) as a tourist, and indeed DEFINITELY offers a different feel to Rotterdam or Amsterdam.

Thanks for the feedback!

I always felt a little guilty about that piece as it’s horribly self-indulgent (more so than usual) and thin on actual useful visitor information, but hey, that’s Den Haag for you!

I tried to make up for the situation by getting in some good zingers, so it’s good to hear they were effective. Viking
