I liked this piece I would have liked to hear more description of the bus ride. I think that travelers often only see the “realness” of a place on public transport because it is people moving and their guard is down, or at leas they are not in their living rooms where we often can’t see them, and if we do it is just for an invited dinner when everyone is on their best behavior.

I suppose the old rule of traveling is true “The cheaper your travel, the more of the country you see.”

I totally agree; when you travel on the cheap, utilize public transport and rely on the kindness of strangers to guide you along, you have a much more real and rewarding experience.

In comparison, a five-star hotel with destination guides come across more like an entertaining façade lacking authenticity where you take in the sights as if from a seat in a movie theater.

As independent travelers, we become the directors of our own movie.
