Agreed, this is one dark, brilliant article. Never been to Bogota (and have no intention of doing so), and this only makes me all the more determined not to go. But if you like a lot of edge to your travel, and here we are talking a lot, then this is the one for you.

yeeeah

you could make this so vivid as an (of course fictional) short story; more! about the girls, the hoods, the quality of the drugs; will sex and violence ever not be interesting??

thanks.

I think it's pretty good that boots n all printed this story.

Typically, now, when I travel I'm there to harvest two natural resources: waves and whores.

(Luckly, they are both renewable)

Screw the ruins and the festive dances.

Originally, I was there for the waves.

But then the whores found me (minding my own business)and turned me over to the dark side. My morals were no match for their charms.

"She likes you, my amigo!"

"Huh?"

What is interesting is to go do a trip like Rodgers and them come back to the US and assume your role as responsible, respectable citizen.

I feel like a phoney for a month, but then I fall back into the role, until I go travel again.

Graham Greene was big traveling whoremonger, a Catholic one at that. He a druggie too.

Not that I am condoning drugs and whores.

I don't know why people write things like this. When you are here, do this, go here and do that.

Is that the..I don't know, the point of these stories, to be guides to places?

I don't say that to be polemical, I just really don't know. I read a lot of 'informational' kinds of things on this site. That's cool too, though.

I also don't understand why this was considered very 'dark.' I guess I have a different idea of dark and shady. I once wrote something similiar to this about a psychotic impulse I had to murder a teenage prostitute in a China. They (BnA) didn't want to run it.

Heh..

There was a lot of good stories here, a goldmine of nice shit. It felt too concerned with practial stuff.

I answer to a higher, kinder power, so this kind of stuff nauseates me, but I would be interested in someone's true to life personal tale about their urge to murder a prostitute.

That, I think would be interesing. It's something to analyze. Why would one feel like this, and what does it really teach us about the roles of each person? And how does Camile Paglia fit in with that? Rather than being some kind of woman- empowering occupation, this would speak more to the true dynamic of it.

I don't know why bootsnall didn't want to run it, but it looks as though they have run some glamorizing, or promiting prostitution. (BUT I didn't read this one, because I don't want to know- I did see the gentleman's post above tho about whoremongering). Barukh, if what you wrote was decent then Boots should run it if they ran this one.
My humble opinion. (tee hee)

I really liked his story. Kudos for being REAL. Its the real life stories that I came to Boots N All to read. Anyone can say how great a place is, but, all of us need to hear the truth from someone who has been there. And who are we to judge? This is not a pre-fabricated perfect Brady Bunch world. Thank you Roger for being Real.

I can't belive what i'm reading. Bogota is not like that. of course it has that side your are commenting, but haven't all big citys? Now I really don't understand why would a person go to a place to go night after night to whorehouses and then think that that is really the country, i mean you can't be so ignorant.
Bogota is a beautiful place, you can find what ever you want! you want culture? there are hundreds of museums of all kinds. Party? Best night life is ever. just go to Andres Carne de Res, and after 6 hours dancing you'll know what real party is!! Bogota is also surrounded with beautiful places you can go in one day. warm and cold wheather, what ever you prefer. Villa de Leyva? Guatavita? WOW incredible places!!!! Or just stay in the center of the city, enjoy of a nice lunch , drink a beer in a nice pub or just have a walk thru the city. Any more infos contact me I'm an insider. Smile

Yeah, you can definitely find this sort of experience in Bogota, but I spent a large part of last summer living in Chapinero and had a totally different experience. I had nice dinners with friends, went dancing into the wee hours of the morning, went to see live music, etc. but I think it's important to remember that you find what you seek out. If coke and prostitutes is your thing, Bogota, or any city for that matter, will seem far seedier and indeed be a far more dangerous place than if you're looking to hike and visit museums (I personally aim for somewhere in the middle of those extremes).

That being said, I thought it was an interesting article and an interesting perspective.
