Having been to Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Agra, Varanasi, etc., I never found one to be more "challenging" than the others. I'm sure Calcutta is perfectly manageable as well. Please report back.

So, how was your trip to Calcutta? I just got back from a month in West Bengal, teaching English at a Buddhist monastery in the countryside about an hour and a quarter outside the city. The monks I taught were mostly Burmese, from Arakan State and were a joy to work with. Kolkata is a lot of work, but there are rewards to be found. While I didn't spend much time in Kolkata itself, I highly recommend spending some time in the area and, if you're interested, I can put you in touch with the organizers of the English program I volunteered at.

Ya I too would love to hear how you got on.
When I first when you Cal I swore I was never leaving Ireland again. But then I fell for the place and now want to go to college there!

maybe you heard about the publishing of mother teresa's letters which reveal that she experienced one long "dark night of the soul" in which she felt an absence from Christ, her "spouse" and her "reason" for doing the work she did for 50 yrs in kolkata. i am here to tell you that the thing that nobody has touched upjon as they do these fucking esoteric reviews of her letters is that it is fucking kolkata that will suck the life from you. obviously nobody who has reviewed her letters has been there. it is hell on earth. no where else is there so much suffering.
