Just wondered if anyone has found any discounts for those over 50 while traveling. Most seem to be tailored to those over 65 (darn them!).

FYI, if anyone is ever in Cincinnati, everything you buy on Sundays at Goodwill is half-price. Smile It doesn't beat a discount on train travel in Europe, but it's something...

Not that I'm there yet---but don't AARP discounts start at age 50?

If I recall correctly they have a travel section for their members.

Oh, be still my heart!

The thing about AARP is that they are useless lackeys (See: support for recent drug bill for seniors) and that one gets the exact same discount with AAA.

AARP won't change my flat tire.

What, the thrill of half-price Goodwill discounts doesn't excite you? Big Grin

I actually just switched from AAA and joined Better World Club based in Portland, OR. I found out that AAA has been lobbying heavily on behalf of the auto industry and against the environment by using the clout of their huge membership (even though most of their members don't realize what they're up to).
quote:
Most people join the AAA (formerly known as the American Automobile Association) for its roadside assistance, Triptiks and maps, auto insurance, and other helpful services for motorists. But according to a new report from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), those services come with a hefty price tag for the Earth. In "The Secret Life of AAA," published in the winter 2001 issue of NRDC’s Amicus Journal, Michael A. Rivlin writes that "using its members as collateral, AAA, its local affiliates, and its partners work to influence national law and policy, and not to the good of the planet. AAA weighs in on highway funding, suburban sprawl, mass transit, car design and safety, air pollution, and global warming. Almost without exception, critics say, it advocates policies that damage the environment and endanger health."
Conscious Choice

I was debating whether to keep my AAA membership active during my RTW so I thank you for this post and for confirming my suspicions about AAA. I have long been unhappy about their preference for highway construction over mass transit solutions but didn't think I could do without, especially in Los Angeles.

That's $48 I can put toward my travel insurance policy.

Yeah, I canceled mine after I found out about this, and joined Better World.

By the way, I also happily found out that AARP is something of a liberal organization (who'd a thunk it?). Just read Bill O'Reilly - he's "unmasked" them. Big Grin

Over here, it's 55 plus and if you are no longer working full time.

But I won't be joining them when I am old enough to ,I'll just stick with my current one.

Have a nice day, Whistler.
