I pasted the following on the europe board before I remembered about this board. So, can any of you seasoned types offer some assistance with the following?

My mom has trouble getting around these days, so I've advised her to take a tour. Not being a tour taker myself, I was hoping some of you could recommend a decent tour company. Any suggestions?

She may go instead with my sister and not take a tour. If she stays in B&Bs, rents a car, and goes tp all of the must sees, what would you think reasonable daily expenses will be. I have suggested she goes in Sept. in order to take advantage of lower prices, but she is being told she should go in Aug. and see the Tattoo. So if you know of price differences, please inform me.

If she does opt for indepence with my sister, any advice you could share - she is not well traveled.

thanks

Don't know if this will help, but if she has trouble getting around, make sure you tell the airlines so she can be met by a wheelchair at the airport(s). That's what I did when I took my 81 year old mom to Europe last year. Also, don't know if your sister plans to drive or if they would be using one place as a base -- if they are, may also be able to rent a wheelchair, but you usually need a week or two. Mom and I spent a week in Vienna, staying in a room we found on www.vrbo.com. Our landlady got someone to help me negotiate for the best rate on the wheelchair. Mom can't walk as much as she used to and this allowed her to see Vienna -- though she didn't enjoy the parts with cobblestones as much (bump, bump, bump).

Good luck to your mom!
