I just went into the living room to play a CD. (This was a CD that I had burned from KPIG recently)

My stereo is old but venerable. I have Hafler separates from the days when the stereo was the *alter* of the living room. I put the CD into my fancy Tascam machine, turned it on and...and...no sound.

Hmmm. Is this the right switch? It's "Tape 1" isn't it? Or is it "Aux"? I don't remember. This pre amp predates CD players, so I have to fake it. I hardly use the stereo these days anyway. Who has the time?

Anyway, it is not playing. Oh! Maybe I hooked up the patch cords wrong the last time I brought the pre amp home after servicing. The pre amp gets serviced about once every ten years. (I pay too much, take it home and attempt to remember how the patch cords go back in. The stereo guy and I have known each other for over 30 years.) Are my patch cords the problem? No, these are good ones from Lasher's electronics supply.

This seemed so much simpler in my 20's. Maybe I need to trade these separates in and just get some old Kenwood stereo receiver. It would be so much simpler. Oh wait! Maybe the stereo tech screwed it up after the last service? I don't even remember when I last listened to a CD in the living room, maybe it has been still broken since the last time I brought it back from service? Maybe my stereo pal is not my pal after all, maybe I need to dump this and get a shiny new Sony something. Now I am frantic. Obsess, lather, repeat.

Fuck it! Take the CD out. Give up on figuring out the patch cords. Go back into the bedroom where my computer is. It will play it on that!

I insert the disc into the D: drive and my computer starts to act all funny. It tries to *install* the disc upon my computer.

What the fuck?

Oh. Wrong disc. I have been trying to play my "Office 2003" install disc on the living room stereo. Oops. Nevermind.

I don't think to seem so good anymore

Good God man! Pay attention to what you're posting! It should be: I don't think to seem so good anymore *.*

Without punctuation it just doesn't make any sense.

Joe, I did the same thing once. After a half hour of trying to fix the stereo and a frantic phone call to my techie boyfriend, he correctly diagnosed that the volume was all the way down. Crazy

Thanks Joe, that was good for a laugh. I missed my flight today in Milan and just paid about $75 for three soups, french fries, a salad and a water.

Meet me in London.

cheers

Don't worry Joe, I'll send you a cheery snipe but did you mean to have a header of "I don't seem to think so good anymore"

And look it's not so bad as socalgirl thinking for $75 she should have got water with an "i" in it.

I'm just glad the camera I bought in Fiji only has two buttons on it, or well it has a lot more but I only need to know about two for now.

And socalgirl, instead of pondering over the potential for exporting dunny seats to Europe why not get some comms whiz kids to come up with just a single common colour coded cluster plug to help us all out and of course a sensor for CD players that will come out with 2003,and you're free...that repeats for three.

I just saw the thread title and had to crack up.
We all have stories like this. (Right?)

Anyway, I'm old and I don't want to talk about it, I just wanted to share the laughs.

" I don't think to seem so good anymore>"

Is that a "Spoonerism" or not? Hhmm.

Alfred Spooner was famous for a toast in which he should have said,--"Raise your glasses to the dear Queen."

Alas! He said,--"Glaze your arses to the queer dean."

Have a nice day, Whistler.

My "best moment" like this was back in 2000 or so -- I rented Amadeus on DVD from the video store and went home to watch it with my date. The movie started right up - no credits, nothing - which seemed a bit odd. But I thought nothing of it. Then after 40 minutes, end credits, movie over! wtf? eventually we realized we'd started the movie in the middle - "damnit, we must've only gotten one of the two disc set!" -- i was pissed.

so, back to the video store. we went through all the other Amadeus boxes and only saw one disc -- very puzzling. Finally I looked closely at the disc. One side said, "side one" the other said 'side two' -- we'd started it on side two.

After literally falling to the floor of the video store and laughing ourselves to tears, we went home and watched the first two-thirds of the movie.... sheez...

I can't blame it old age -- maybe the stress of military life? that or booze...

At least you didn't have to sit on the edge of your seat in suspense wondering what was going to happen.

Have a nice day, Whistler.

Hello Spiralout, Do you realise what you've posted? An almost exact replica of Static's,-I don't think to seem so good anymore *.*

It should be - I don't seem to think so good anymore.
