I live in central California and have done day trips in every direction. Looking for inexpensive 2 or 3 day trips to do. I like hostels, exploring cities, relaxing in nature, and getting away from crowds. In 48, mom and wife, and need to get away to have time being myself. Would like to do trips with other ladies, but have trouble finding traveling partners. tell me about some cool places to go.

I grew up in Central California, so I sort of relate to your pain. The great thing about "central" California is just that---it's "central." You've got the coast and/or the mountains not that far away.

I'd say rent a convertible and hit the PCH/Highway 1, in either direction, North or South. Plenty of inexpensive, clean, get-away-from-it-all hostels to choose from (check out any of California's hostel directories, like HI-USA, etc.). Big Sur comes to mind, as does Mendicino, etc.

Or, head up to the hills...tons of great backroads, towns & trails to explore up in the Sierras.

You could check the Travel Buddies forum of BnA or any number of travel companions websites for potentials.
