I want to scream.

How do you deal with someone at home that's worried sick about you going? My mother isn't saying anything directly, but she's freaking out about the trip. Today, for the first time she said she thought it sounded "fun" but that was only after I pushed a bit.

There is just the two of us and I understand her desire to be protective. We are the only immediate family that either of us have. But I'm 34 years old! She understand that but I'm freaking out because the trip is so close and I'd really appreciate some words of encouragement! ARGH!

What is she worried about/freaking out over? If there are specific things, maybe you can reassure her why she doesn't need to worry about "this" or "that". If it's just general anxiety....errr....wouldn't know what to say other than "people travel all the time" and return home safely. You can offer to send her e-mails every so often so she doesn't worry so much, that kind of thing. Maybe just knowing that you'll be in touch while on the road will help her relax? Regardless, once you return safe and happy from this trip, she'll probably not worry about your next one.

She's worried about the big city. She's never spent any real time in one and she's sure that they are all horrible places where people are mugged and murdered everyday. She's also never really travelled other than camping trips. It's not even so much as me going alone (she does that herself), but where I'm going and for so long.

Also, and I hate to say this, I don't believe she has the confidence in me to pull this off. Seriously. Maybe that's just me being paranoid but I think that is coming into play.

I've done what you have said. I'll be e-mailing her through her friends because she is completly computer illiterate.

Well then....just don't get mugged or murdered in the big bad city! If you pull off that miracle, upon your safe return her confidence in you will have grown exponentially. In her eyes, you'll be Wonder Woman.

One stone, two birds. Big Grin

Then the whole world is yours!

That is true Smile

Or, if anything does happen I can prove to her that I'm capable of handling it. And I will.

Thanks for cheering me up Travis! *hug*

Nothing bad will happen, only good things. Make sure you keep her posted as to your movements and how much fun you are having.

Make sure you post your adventures here or start a blog and post them there.

Most of all, have a magic time....
