This may be a health forum topic, but you are really the generation of booties I'd like to get advice from.

My parents are visiting me in NZ in Dec. and we have planned quite a trip. Before Christmas we are spending two nights on the Abel Tasman track (among other short day trips from Christchurch) then after Christmas we will be travelling for 10 days around the South Island, during which we will be doing some hiking and a heli-hike at the glaciers.

The 10 day trip is the part I'm worried about because my mom has fibromyalgia and it can really flare up on her when she has to sit in one place for long periods of time, like the long car rides. When the pain is worst case, she pretty much has to stay in bed to recover and this is definiteyly something we want to avoid. I want her to have a great time without having to travel and see the country in pain. We've discussed her limitations already, and we are staying in some places multiple days and we will stop alot to stretch our legs and enjoy the scenery, but...I think in her excitement she may not be telling me everything. She has been exercising and I have heard that that can help with this condition.

Has anyone travelled, or travelled with anyone, with these types of problems? Do you have any other tips to keep my mom comfortable and pain free (as possible) so she can get the most out of this trip?

Many thanks!

There is a website www.fmaware.org for fibromyalgia sufferers that you might check out for tips. They also put out a magazine and I think have a forum.
