Hi:
I'm brand new to your site. So, please forgive me if I goof-up. My husband and I are 50ish and frugal. I would sincerely appreciate any creative ideas for safe, budget lodging in Los Angles for 3 nights in Sept.

Does anyone out there have ANY ideas for me. We don't want to spend $150. per night to simply SLEEP.

Come one. Come all. Please share your tips for cheap, but SAFE, lodging in L.A.

We're too old for the couch surfing group.
PLEASE THINK !
Many Thanks,
Cyn Suspicious

I saw some pretty good deals on hotels.com, even in LA proper (some in the 60-80 dollar range). Places with 323(Hollywood) or 410(Westside) telephone area codes are generally safer than 213 (downtown).

If you're going to be hanging out in Hollywood or downtown, try Pasadena or somewhere else in the 626 area code (minutes to downtown, good restaurants right in Pasadena); if you're going to Santa Monica or somewhere on the coast, you can try Long Beach or one of the little cities around there (but stick with coastal areas, West of the 405 freeway, or it can be a little shady).

A month or two before, check out travelzoo.com; also, supposedly there are some good hotel auction websites akin to hotwire, but I can't remember what they are.
Good luck!

since youll be in la - rent a subcompact at the airport. you can take the car and as you drive about looking at whatever you want to look at youll find a vast asstment of cheapie hotels for anywhere from 25-75 usd. you dont want to be downtown and the only thing to see there is perhaps olvera street per cheyennes comment.

i would not recommend you stay in a fixed spot as no sense in driving wherever and back again as the traffic is so sucky.
