"Golden Oldies?" GOLDEN OLDIES??????? Mad

Having had my BNA head handed to me by the younger, pierced- can't travel without a cell phone-let's see a photo of your pet-dating protocol-posters on the site, I have wandered here. For those who have no idea what I am talking about, go to forum and take a look at the phones and travel weenies post. (Not that I don't love them, you understand--I've met many of them and enjoy them-- but conversations with a veteran perspective and experiences have value, too....)

But Court, Joe, Skobb, Slip, et all, could we PLEASE change the name of the board? I suggest "veteran travelers" or "been there, done that." Golden Oldies makes me feel like listening to Perry Como and dying (and as yet, I have not done either). People over thirty (or forty, or whatever the break is) still travel, have sex, do adventure travel and and some even run around with their hair on fire.

Right, folks?

I second the suggestion. And I LOVE "been there, done that."

I agree as well. Golden Oldie make you sound like you are half dead......which I am not. Although I haven't run around with my hair on fire lately but I did stay up half the night dancing with some recent graduates of the local law enforcement academy. I thought it was my civic duty Wink

There is just something about that word "mature" that bothers me......."been there done that" is better.

I suggested the "Old Farts Forum" way back when they started this area. Dunno why it didn't stick.

Now I'm going to go enjoy looking at pet photos so nobody accuses me of being the cranky old man that Salmo obviously has become. Razz

I like "Old Farts", but "Been There, Done That" makes me suspect that next week every cool wannabe 17yr old is going to be telling us grey wise and farting oldsters about how experienced he/she is, which drugs he/she did at which clubbing in Barcelona, and how they are SO beyond all that and we (grey, wise and farting oldsters) are actually the childish ones. Please, don't expose us to that.

I agree, Golden Oldies has got to go. Anything but that would be a little better.

Slip:

Then make TWO boards, but have one for veteran travelers, been there done that--my favorite as well, Joe-- whatever. I don't want to particularly participate in a board where veteran travel perspectives are mixed with medical advice for incontinence.

And if it gets named "old farts" after resigning from BNA, I'm getting on an airplane, flying to Seattle, and as much as advanced age will allow, beating the crap out of Travis (who needs it after his last post anyway.) And Jester-you are on the list too.

<<If a board is established for 'Vetern Travelers', what sort of topics might appear there that are unique to Vetern Travelers?>.

I still prefer "been there, done that." How about how cell phone have changed the face of travel? That thread was never played out, and the generational difference was apparent. On a number of levels.

How about perspective on destinations that we saw 10 or 20 or 30 years ago, and how they have changed? (I remember Aitutaki when there were only three places to stay, remote Patagonia in the 80's, and Guatamaula when going there meant risking--and nearly losing-- your life). In 1975. How about adventure travel ops for people over 35 or 40? How about a thread on the changing politics of world travel (which one needs perspective to appreciate?) How about a thread about the lack of cultural sensitivity in many of today's travelers, and how that compares to us? How about exchanging contact information on people/friends in remote destinations? How about stories about how we almost lost our lives? Or how I ended up marrying that magnificent blonde woman who skied past me--PAST ME!-- in Bariloche, SA. In 1984. How about a thread for finding experienced, veteran travel companions, regardless of age? How about a thread consisting of counsel on travel accommodation options for those of us who no longer want to do hostels? Transport? How about a thread on most interesting wines and cuisine of the world in unexpected places (like say, egg curry in Fiji, with a glass of wine from PNG, of all places?)

I could go on for a long time--I have-- but I am betting some other folks have some things they could add to the list as well.

next bna gathering is at salmos, i hope!!!!

hows about something really simple and clear like "30 and over" or "40 and over" i dont htink it needs a particularly snappy name adn yes, "been there, done that" will attract unwanted attention.

1/3 done with life,
