since it seems we have quite a few people here who obviously have a hatred of the united states, why not herd them all into a little forum all their own. you know, with such intelligent minds , they could come up with a nifty title for it too.

I mean Come on; i have several issues with the government and the president such as the environmental strategies and how the war is being handled. But I've seen some people here proclaiming that our president is equal to hitler, if not worse. This is not just simply voicing opinions or disagreeing with policies and stating that; it goes well beyond it and we all can see that.
I have seen many replies to these sort of ignorant comments that are passionate in the love they feel for the country and the people in it, including respect for our leaders. I'm sure some of the authors of these posts would also like to see these types of comments posted in their own little file where they belong. I understand if you have complaints to make, but statements like the one i included here, should be moved elsewhere.

Not too sure what you're getting at with the quote Joe pulled out, but anywho...

They are opinions, and strong and strongly felt ones. Lots of people here have strong opinions, and no not all of them are travel-related. But segmenting things into another forum, and just for that one thing, probably isn't the best solution; what'd be the next set of strong opinions to get struck off into their own?

Moving things like that too, just isn't very feasible - it'd take loads of time that the lads could probably put to better use on other work for the site.

If someone gives opinions you don't like, or whatever, take 'em to task. Start a thread in the "BnA Chit-Chat" or something, and discuss there if you want. It sounds like you've plenty of replies and counters, and that could be a great way to engage some of the other folks in the community in some great discussion.

Cheers, Anthony

Beyond the technical difficulties involved in starting up new fora, there are other reasons to keep it mixed in with other topics.

When communities become segmented and topics become isolated they tend to get more extreme. Perhaps just hyperbole at the beginning, but over time it can become ugly.

Unless a topic is broad enough to involve many sub-topics I'd suggest keeping it in the mainstream (so to speak) where the full light of the community's membership can keep it real and in perspective. There are enough fora to minitor already, how can my fellow members take the wind out of my sails if they can't find my posts?

agreed that making a new forum is bad.

I was really nervious that the chit chat forum would be some empty hole that no one visits, but really its taken off and really free'd up the other forums of off-topic crap

Its got to be tough for an Americam patriot continually hearing criticism of the country and leaders.

Here in Bangkok I was watching the BBC news yesterday in my hotel and an American visitor said 'BBC news, its always bad news and its always our fault'.

By that I think he meant that many news items have America as a factor. I think the situation is that America is a big powerful country, with big powerful companies and influential people.

America affects a lot of the things that go on in other countries. When some of the unpleasant things show up America gets connected.

Here in Bangkok there is huge sex industry. But who's on the corner of Patpong rd selling burgers? McDonalds. Starbucks, Pizza Hut and a slew of other businesses are right where the action is making their money.

My Bush has upset a lot of people around the world on a number of issues and will be critised heavily as long as he is in power.

Like most people I like Americans, just not the leadership.
