Knows What a Schengen Visa Is

Hi,
I'm going to China in August and I've been wanting to make reservations through your site.

In their description, some hostels are described as "wheelchair- friendly". Yet, when I look at their pictures, I see stairs and no handicapped rail. After e-mailing one place, I learned that indeed, I would have to climb a few stairs if I wanted to stay there.

Another had the mention "wheelchair-accessible" . I can see the stairs but can't tell if there's a handicapped rail.

Knowing that a place is accessible is very important for me.
So who gives them that appellation? And is there a difference between wheelchair-friendly and wheelchair-accessible?

Thanks.

TravelClown,

Sorry for the delay on seeing this.

Hostel Description are provided by the hostels themselves. So I would be wary of a details like wheelchair accessible if you can't get a hold of them to confirm exactly what they mean by that. Some may mean it to be - if you can get your wheelchair up the stairs - no worries - you are welcome! versus we have facilities to accomodate wheelchairs.

Does this help?

Yes, sorry I missed seeing this earlier... And to piggyback on what Sean said, if I were you, I would pay more attention to the actual written description than just the bullet-pointed list on the right of the hostel listings. I've seen several where there's special mention of wheelchair friendly rooms, or something like that, in the actual written description. That seems to be a bit more meaningful to me than a bullet point. But yes, unless you can confirm it in advance I'd be wary of what they meant by "wheelchair accessible."

The thing is though, I can't always find their internet address... They don't all have websites... On the other hand, after I make a reservation, I get all the info I would have needed prior to contact them...
And so for some places, I did make reservations (with my fingers crossed! Darth Mavis)and wrote to them after...

I wish you'd give their e-mail as a reference before we make the actual reservation. Smile
