I had a hard time finding the main page for Turkey on this site, so I did a search for articles on Turkey. I found that it was actually listed in Western Europe. I thought that was odd and may be a mistake.

Funny you mention this. I found a thread under Middle East about Turkey. I would expect to find Turkey under Western Europe or Asia. Technically, half of Istanbul is in Western Europe, hence probably the W Europe classification.

No, it's definately not western europe. A sizeable chunk of the country - small by Turkish standards, but large compared to some other countries - is in eastern Europe. The rest is in Asia.

And to quimby - the middle east isn't a continent, indeed, it's located on three continents (Africa, Europe, and the majority in Asia), so it's always fuzzy to say where its boundaries are. It definately includes Turkey, so the thread fits fine in there, or in Europe. But I've yet to see a Turkey thread in Asia, although it could technically fit in there fine, too.

There isn't a separate forum for Eastern Europe, it is all in one. So, tunk, your eastern europe search would have landed you there, too.

The Turkish people think they deserve to be in Western Europe, certainly. They're not really in the Middle East, so its a toss up where it belongs. They're on the borders of both, so to speak, bordered by Greece on one side and Iran on the other.

I have no argument over its placement, at least until they join the EU.
