I haven't been on BnA that long, and I think the site is a fabulous resource. The information in all the guides and destination-specific things are great, and I really appreciate that there's a women's issues travel guide. But, I think some of the most useful, inspirational, and powerful resources that I've found on the site have been the different message boards. I've loved being able to find like-minded, friendly travelers to ask questions, get ideas, and talk travel... and I'm really sad that there isn't a women specifc discussion board.
I know that people have complained that there are a lot of forums, and I know I can always use the search function on the boards. But I think a women's issues board would be really useful and beneficial anyway. The boards serve as a way to foster travel communities, be they country or situation specific (like being in the corporate wasteland, or being a student traveler). I've found myself searching all over the boards for discussion threads about women's issues, and while there are some, they're scattered all over the place. It would be nice to feel a sense of community with the other women of BnA, and have a central location for discussion.

Yeah, I saw all that stuff, and that tampon thread is awesome... there are a bunch of threads out there that address women's issues, I wasn't saying there wasn't. I just don't think that its the same as having a women's forum in terms of building a community, where all the women travel specific questions and discussion could be all together, that's all.

If we have a women's issue forum, there needs to be a men's issue forum. Fairness & all.
I kind of like that we are all one when it comes to travels/issues. There are tons of topics on women traveling, and on other minority travel. Most of the women's issues here seem to focus around "is it safe for me to go alone." I like hearing the men chime in on things, and would worry that having a separate forum would be divisive.
