Overall I think it's a great improvement.

Re the color combo. I'm going to assume you want to keep the *ahem* khaki green. If that's the case, you'll want to lose the blue color you're using for screen names, thread titles, signature links, and other text links. It's way too electric to live in a Khaki world. Plus you have that other sorta blue, sorta green (okay, who am I kidding, it's teal) in other places. They're fighting like bitch sisters.

If you're going to keep the Teal and the Khaki, change the electric blue to a really rich brown, or hell, if you want to be fucking fabulous, maroon. But it's gotta be dark/rich not bright/glaring.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go do a flower arrangement.

P.S. I'm viewing it on an iMac.

P.P.S. Oh wait. Now I see that the electric blue posts/ thread titles turns to teal after you've clicked on it. The above idea may be all wrong. Even so, you just need to find a happier relationship between the teal and the other color and your set.

I see what you're doing now. This lines up much, much better with your home page color schene, and your logo (dark khaki) and on and on and on. Before, the message board color scheme had no relation to your homepage, and lived in an entirely different world.

Much smarter now.

Given all that, the only color problem you have remains....the electric blue. It's the one from the other planet. Look at the colors of the world map on your home page. They're working within the khaki world. And they're dark, flat colors. Even just darkening the blue up and dialing down the brightness may be enough. Fix that relationship and you've nailed it.

We're bitching about it here. It could work, but it really is painful on the eyes for us old folk. Could it be muted? I resented the switch to the blue format just for aesthetic reasons, but this is a functional problem for me. The white is so overbearing that any or the blue links are painful to read.

I love the new layout. It is so much cleaner!

I agree the white is a little stark. Is there a more nuanced white you could use (off-white, light beige)?

But overall...bravo.

Probably not noticeable to 98% of Booties but for those select few of us stuck with dial-up, the pages are slower to load.

While it does look cleaner, slicker, newer; the white is a little too bright. Maybe an off-white...

Love it! Looks great! I stare at a monitor for varying amounts of time from 1-8 hours a day. The white is bright, but it doesn't seem to be completely white. The white and khaki combination looks completely professional. Good work, guys.

P.S. I'm on a Mac now. I was on a PC earlier. The OSs rendered the pages the same.

I'm liking this a lot. A LOT easier on the eyes. I agree that maybe an off-white might be worth a try. The challenge would be what to altnerate it with..something that's still the soft yellow/khaki, but enough of a contrast from an-off white. Too much of a contrast from the off-white & you're back to square one in the color problems.

Kudos to the Boots team for giving it a try!

I'm afraid I find it harder to read - the effect was instant when I first saw it. I'm not quite sure why, either, since I'm actually pretty neutral about the choice of colours. I like them no more nor less than the old ones. However for some reason the page skates across my eyes, while the unread links are very distracting.

It's a shame one can't be offered a choice. We're identified, so it should be possible to switch CSS files by profile. If not, could the unread links at least be made a bit less vivid please?

The shade of green bothers my eyes. If it were a more solid green, it probably wouldn't.

I actually really like the solid white. It makes the page look clean. I'm surprised so many people are seeing green - I've looked on a few computers, and the only way I can get green is to look at the monitor on the MacBook at a really funny angle. Straight on, and on the other computers I've tried, it looks like a light tan colour.

Hahaha! This reminds me of why I quit my career just as I was climbing to the top of the toilet bowl.

Have fun Chris!

Green - albeit a washed out green - is what I see. Red/green colourblindness is the most common so I guess it's no great surprise that there's often a lot of difference in perception. There's just not enough definition for me - except in the unvisited links, which have too much - I think that's what gives me the 'skatiness'.

Meh. Nightmare. What NTFT said. I'm going to watch the cricket instead...

Hey Annie,

I find this fascinating in a not-my-problem kind of way. (Sorry, Chris!)

Within this thread, while it's still open to this page, scroll up to the top. When you look at the BootsnAll Travel Logo (with the BOOTS graphic next to it), what color do you see there? And just below it, what color is the tagline "Ultimate Resource for the Independent Traveler"?

They are mimicked in the title "BootsnAll Travel Community" just below on this same page.

On my monitor, the brand name is a dark/US Army/khaki green. The tagline is a dark sand color. Then, the green that people I think are largely referring to is the alternating post backgrounds (and many other uses) framework. On my display it appears as a lighter version of khaki green, therefore consistent. But some are seeing tan....some gray, and evidently others are on too many drugs or a cheap monitor... Razz

(Kidding People!!! Smile)

Many of these same earth-tone colors also appear on my monitor on the Boots homepage, where the map and gazillion links are. (Well, South America sorta got shafted on the map, and Africa to a lesser degree, but the designer needed something to separate all the continents from one another, obviously.)

Again, have fun Chris! Pick a palette and stick with it!!!

P.S. But for the record, the white background looks fine on my old iMac, which is pretty much really all that matters. But why are the blue links on the home page a different value than on the message board? Why are my eyes still bleeding? Why???? Dancer

The electric blue active link is terrible.

Everything else is otherwise ok. Better than the old grey background anyway.

I suggest one of 2 changes:

Option 1
Change the electric blue (unclicked links) to the teal (already clicked). Then change the teal (already clicked links) to a maroon/brown.

Option 2
Or change the electric blue to a dark red, and keep the teal for the already clicked links.
