Maybe this is just me, but there are too many sticky posts these days. In some forums, there are so many you have to go "below the fold" to see new posts." Those, along with the many rerouted (I don't know the proper name, the posts that are just shortcuts in some threads and link back to another forum, i.e. current "New Forum" thread), are starting to make things a little less reader friendly and more cluttered.

I know we want to promote certain things, and I have been trying to think of ways to make this better, but maybe someone else has ideas?

The way I have always approached this when helping to run online communities is a max of 3 stickys per forum, and any annoucement type threads go into a specfic anouncement fourm.

Personally I hate stickys and wish we could go back to the days of 'bump' and 'top' posts. They tended to only get bumped to the top for aslong as the item was relevant. Too many stickys are dead threads that get in the way.

We were actually discussing this last night over dinner (sad, I know). So mark down a few more votes for fewer sticky notes and other board clutter.

You and Harland?

Sad that you were having dinner with Harland?

Sad that you and Harland were discussing BnA protocol over dinner?

Dinner was sad?

BnA protocol is sad?
-or-
Just a general state of sadness in the statement and the general sense of things in the world?

Razz Nah, Harlan was left at home. Julie, Tiff and I had dinner and it's sad that we were having a nice meal outside on a lovely summer evening and took to discussing the abundance of sticky notes and links on the boards. I swear we actually talk about things that don't involve BnA sometimes.

Thanks for all your input - we're working to reduce the number of stickys... I've cleaned up most of the boards, and will be working on the rest of them soon. Consider this "spring cleaning" at the end of summer. Smile
