Like the new layout. Now that it's live I'm just noticing little glitches that need to be ironed out.

1) In IE7, I seem the top right corner (of the large greyish box) doesn't seem to line up properly. I'll check at home to see if FF reacts the same way.

2) In the corporate wasteland forum, the text on the Go/New/Search/Tools buttons is white, which really doesn't work in this colour scheme.

Otherwise, good work.

#2 nice catch. Should be ok now.

#1 is the bane of my existence right now. FFox is fine, but IE does my head in. Will keep playing with it.

Bit of an educated guess given that I can't see your CSS but I can see that the top closer div is different to the bottom one. The bottom one uses a single gif set to a specific width. The top one uses corner gifs and (presumably) a style for the edge in between. Without knowing how your top closer div's width is set I can't be sure, but there's no DOCTYPE declaration in the page and this may be your problem. A quick google showed up this:

http://www.codetoad.com/forum/20_27588.asp

and especially this:

http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread450675.html

that suggest a link between different IE/FF DIV rendering without the correct DOCTYPE declaration. No idea how much control you have over the templates in the forum software, or even whether this is the problem, but it's a thought.

Good luck.

Yes, unfortunately we don't get to have a doctype declaration. One of the shortcomings of the boards software. So stuff that would normally work fine has to be hacked old school. Thanks for looking into it, Ralph.

At home now looking at it in FF, and that top closer div's border (the line joining the two corner gifs) is much wider than in IE. I guess there's no way you can replicate the single gif as per the bottom closer div?

Layout's not my forte I'm afraid. Can be a real headf**k, you have my sympathy.

[EDIT]You win, by the looks of things. Well done Smile
[EDIT EDIT]Aha - the single gif - now why didn't I think of that Wink

In today's episode of layout weirdness, on the main forum page, some of the "last post" dates are aligned to the same spot as the subject text. Which is causing the right side of those dates to slip off to the right of the box. Still legible, but doesn't look right.

I'm seeing this in Safari (3.0.4). When I go to the PC and load it in FF it works fine. And it's not every forum that's doing it, just some of them. Bali, Europe, and Around the World are weird. Members, Chit Chat, and Africa are fine.

In other, not specific browser related notes, is it intentional that different sections of the forum have different column widths? "Ways to Go" and "Travel Resources" seem to allot less space to the "Forum" column, and more to the "Last topic column.

There was a recent post in the Middle East forum that had a titles that had no spaces in it so it was forcing the column to accommodate the long string of characters. I've added some spaces and that's made a difference for me on the column width issue. The 'Ways to Go' is still out of whack and I'm not sure yet what that might be.

Can you email me (chris[at]bootsnall[dot]com) a screenshot of what you see regarding your first paragraph? That would help me see what you see and figure out what might be causing it.

Thanks.

EDIT: some long display names (eg: Journeybeyondtravel & RalphTheWonderLlama) are forcing the box to be wider, just as the unbroken post title was an issue.
