Recently, several MODs and one former one, climbed all over a prolific poster because of supposed anachronistic and cliched posts.....

Those same MODs were insulting and dismissive of both the poster and her supporters...They offered no support to their rancor other than that "Nobody talks that way"

I have it on some authority that several of the MODs have considered oustinng this person. I also have heard that you have been a somewhat calming voice.

Knowing that you are aware of exactly what I am talking about, I would like to hear about what the situation is. We have lived for a long time under this rule...Good is Good, Bad is Bad....

But, in my eyes, suddenly we are in the world of Good is Good...if the council says it is.

I would prefer an answer to this Divisive controversy(that the MODs have apparently struggled over) on an open forum...But I'll go to back channels if it seems appropriate.

Everyone loves Whistler. No one's getting rid of Whistler. You play the eccentric long enough, and eventually someone will become annoyed with your posts and lambast you (believe me, I should know). And sometimes it's unpleasant and sometimes it simply erupts and dissipates without a satisfactory conclusion.

I thought this whole "controversy" blew over a week ago? Why are we even still talking about it?

I love you, Whistler. And you too, Piecar. And Static, SpiralOut, Callilucy, AWJ, Prisa, JessieS, and even...Jest...well no..not Jester. But I enjoy Jester. Most of the time.

So can't we just put this all behind us and be one big happy mildly-pacified family again?

White Flag

First of all, Piecar, if you're going to publicly demand something from me, you'd better spell my name right.

Wink

Second, in general, I do think these things are more appropriately dealt with off the boards, especially when they involve only one or two people - most of the people who visit the boards, both registered members and lurkers, don't have a clue what this is about. That's why I usually try to do this stuff through PMs, etc.

What's more, because the issue you're talking about here doesn't involve you directly, and because I'm not going to share the contents of PMs I've had with other people in this public thread (I don't think that would be fair, and would kind of defeat the purpose of the "P" in PM), there's not much I can say on the subject in "an open forum."

Finally, if we can't get the original Aussie facts thread back on its original track, it's going to be closed again - it doesn't matter who started the thread or who derailed it, the fact that it continues to run derailed isn't helpful.

An apology from 'spiralout', would go a long LONG way in defusing the situation, imho, together with a complete cessation of snide remarks.

Australians don't complain about the US spelling of words like colour, defence, travelling, marvellous, theatre, flavour, centre, favour, etc, or US'isms like "Y'awl come back now", so don't you think it's just a little unfair & onesided, that an American takes offense at Australian idiosyncracies & idiom? Some Aussies I've met, really DO talk like that. What you saw was what you got, with the late Steve Irwin crocodile hunter, for example. Me? I've picked up a US accent. Oh the shame. How will I ever live it down?

Sigh.

So now it isn't simply a case of one member expressing irritation with another member for "pouring a little extra of the same kind of gravy". Now it's an international incident for which all Aussies should be ofended and for which SpiralOut, as an American rather than just some fella, should publicly apologize?

Yeah, I'm not buying it.

Whistler's moved on. The thread in question seems to have moved on. Piecar seems to have taken a temporary vow of silence over the issue, but that won't last. (He's too well-loved around here to leave for good, and he knows it.) All is fairly "diffused."

As far as national pride and egos go, the American members both give and take the largest portion of bullshit on this forum on a regular basis. No other nationality has to bear the casual criticism of their government, country, and every other aspect of their society and culture by Canadians, Aussies, Europeans of all stripes, and their fellow Americans. And they take such criticism, for the most part, without asking for an apology. And, frankly, no one owes them one. If you'd like, feel free to add the mockery of American idioms to the mix. Snide or no, I doubt many would care.

That said, I don't want to belittle your reaction.

If you think you as an Australian deserve some kind of apology, then PM SpiralOut and ask for one. You might get one, or he might tell you to go to hell. Either way, what would you have the BnA staff do about it? There's no moderating hurt feelings.

That doesn't excuse the snide remarks by spiralout. They're both uncalled for, and unappreciated.

I'm not excusing anything. Nor, for that matter, am I condemning anything. If you were/are offended by what a member posted, or the tone in which s/he posted it in, then PM said member and ask for an apology. Should you fail to get such an apology, well, then move on. There's nothing anyone else here can do about your (or my or his, her, their) feelings.

Just PMed back. Smile

Which, by the way, is how everybody else should handle any personal disagreements or hurt feelings here on BnA.

Unless, when discussing such matters, you end up making fun of Jester. Then I'd like to read about it in one of the public forums. Because jokes made at Jester's expense belong to all of us. As a community.

Viking

Now, that's enough of me declaring myself this week's voice of reason. Such a role really doesn't suit my otherwise caustic, arrogant, and belligerent nature.

Uncle CoOp is giving out sponge baths?

Ummmm.....ewww.

If it makes anyone feel better, a certain member chooses to linguistically punish me in a quieter, more subtle manner.

Sore loser, I say! Smile

I'd actually prefer making fun of me be in the public forums. Because then I get to read them too, and because it reaffirms my belief that none of you go one. single. day. without thinking about me. Cool

A few things here.....

1.} JessieS I fixed your name...you are right...Not right to screw up someone's name

2.) As far as I can tell I never DEMANDED anything of you. I am Sorry that you felt that way. It was not my intention

3.) My comments to AnnieB on the "Dreaded Thread Repeater" were tongue in cheek AND have no bearing on this discussion whatsoever...It's similar to "Yeah?! But what about that other time?!" ploy to couples use on each other.

4.) During some PMs I disparaged Joe's shirts in a fit of pique...I am sorry about that. The man can wear whatever silly shirt he likes!

5.) I was away from a computer for a few days on a project...Much of this that I started went on without me, and for that, I apologize....It was a fluke of fate.

6.)While I believe that Spiralout owes an apology still, instead of an end-around, Whistler is satisfied, so I guess I am.

7.) should this have played out in public? Hmm...probably not. I direct you back to the first shot across the bow...whose was it, exactly?

8.) See ya around. Maybe I'll see you out there.

D

Oh...Close the thread, please.
