I was just offered a humanitarian/art/culture trip to Haiti and was wondering if it would be a good choice or should I try another area of the world?

Thanks!

If you're with a group for a particular reason, why not? Its the best base to explore a culture.

Overall, Haiti is among the more dangerous of the Carribean an islands with grinding poverty, and people who have gone there have told me some _interesting_ stories.

If you want a tamer experience, the Dominican republic is just next door. People I talked to seemed to like the country.

But if its with people who can show you the way, and its unique, why not? Just be prepared for a level of poverty that will astonish you.
