Hi all,

US citizen planning on going to Cuba from Mexico City for 2 weeks- how much money do you recommend bringing, as I need to bring everything in cash.

Read all the threads on Cuba, which were very helpful, but I am specifically interested in the urban gardens in la Habana. Just wondering if anyone knows of a person or place to check out while I am there!

I am leaving from Mexico City to Havana and heading to Madrid from there and it seems like Air Europa is the way to go in terms of price. Unfortunately, they do not fly to Mexico City and it seems there is no office here.

Does anyone know if I can just buy my Havana-Madrid ticket once I get to Cuba??

As far as bringing money down, you oughta check out a guidebook. That'll give you a good idea of how much to bring. Try to bring Euro, it seems to hold it's value well down here. This'll make sense when you get down here, but the more you can buy in Pesos Cubanos (versus Pesos Convertibles, or CUCs) the more money you will save. You can buy plane tickets here in Habana. Look in a guidebook for the addresses of the offices. I'm not sure where they fly to.

There are many urban gardens here in Habana. If you're interested in them, the best way to learn is to walk into one and just start talking to someone. Most Cubans have the Gift of Gab and would be happy to talk to you about what they're doing.

My best advice during your visit is this: talk to people! Cubans (in general) are friendly and love to talk. How's your Spanish?
