looking at adopting from an orphanage in Haiti. Have the option to go to pick up our child. Is it safe? any experiences?

Not the safest place on earth but I would recommend you check with the State department to view any warnings for the country or other travel tips and hints they might have for Haiti. http://travel.state.gov/travel

This is a sensitive issue and you should do as much reseaarch as possible... a good travel agent might be able to help as well.

make arrangements with the orphanage to come pick you up. things are calming down now. i was recently there for christmas and new years. state department is automatically going to tell you to stay away. or you can get hotel accom and the people at the orphan can come pick you up for a visit and the hotel can assist you with finding a driver to go to the orphanage.
