Lost in Place |
I spent a month on Margarita Island, which is part of Venezuela but still technically in the Caribbean.
The biggest culture shock was the huge amount of littering. From our rental condo's balcony window we could see people carrying their trash bags over to empty lots in between buildings and tossing their garbarge on the pile. The beaches were beautiful but just on the other side of the road across from the beach side restaurants/clubs there was a low wall and behind that wall - lots of bottles & trash bags. To give them some credit though, on our last day on the way to the airport, we saw a road side clean up crew (volunteer kids, not prison inmates). |
