Hey guys, can anyone let me know the cheapest way to get to St Kitts from LA or Miami? Am I better to stop in Puerto Rico and catch a ferry? Never been to Caribbean before and can't wait! Anyone else off to the world cup?

Miami is a hub for the Caribbean. American has a non-stop flight from Miami to St. Kitts, in early/mid March, for about $550 r.t..

Flying from LAX will entail one or more stops, and higher fares. If you are coming from Australia, however, the total fare and times will be what you are looking at, not just the LAX or Miami portion.

I don't know anything about a ferry from Puerto Rico to St. Kitts. Ferries are more used for island hopping, such as between St. Kitts and Nevis. Travel by sea between P.R. and St. Kitts would be a journey itself!

When we did it a few years back we flew from Chicago(ORD) to Puerto Rico(SJU) on United, then took American for the short hop to St. Kitts. Don't get your hopes up too high for either St. Kitts or Nevis other than the event you are going to see.

Hey is this the test match you're going to?? How exciting! I lived in Antigua when they had the famous game where Brian Lara batted 100. Although the next year, the West Indies lost to the Australian team and things got a little ugly.

Yeah I think the only way you can do an inter-island boat trip in that area is if you hire somebody yourself. Some friends of mine who were in Peace Corps St Kitts hired a fisherman to take them on a daytrip to Saba. It was a really choppy ride in a small boat and afterwards one of my friends made the comment that "I now have affinity with Haitian boat people." (this was around the time that people were fleeing Haiti after the first time that Aristide had been run off).

Otherwise the only way to get to St Kitts is via puddle jumper. You can fly out of the hub in San Juan definitely on American Eagle. If LIAT still exists, they're the regional carrier. But you may have to fly to Antigua in order to go that route.

Don't take life so serious son, it ain't nohow permanant.

I think the people that run the site live there too, so you could always email them for more info. Hope that's a help.
