My wife wants to go there this summer, and award air tickets are available, so I guess we'll go. From the little I've researched it, it seems kinda expensive/touristy/ritzy. Like Cancun maybe? Any thoughts or suggestions? (It's her turn to pick)

Aruba would not be my first or second choice. I think it is way overdone, too many tourists and expensive to boot. I suggest either Grenada or Tobago on that end of the Caribbean, and the Bahamas Family Islands on the other.

Thanks Salmo. Believe me, it's not first or second on my list either. Actually, the Carribean is not high on my list in general after a miserable trip to St. Kitts and Nevis a few years ago. But... she puts up with me traveling solo for work and being gone for well over half the year. Every year. That's where she wants to go, so we're going. I'm pretty sure she will like it alot. As for me, I'll make the best of it. So far, found a neat looking hotel at Eagle beach for $70 per night X 10 = $700. Airfare is free, so I'm hoping to pull it off for around $1500. The prices for the fishing boats seem outrageous at $250/person for half day. Hopefully can find something cheaper once we're there.
