I really enjoy sushi and sashimi. I make my own and go to sushi bars when I can. I was just wondering has anyone had sushi while traveling in japan? Im just kinda curious about it over there I would assume that there are some really good sushi bars to try out. Are there any sushi fans here?

a treat for me was going to the Tsukiji market in Tokyo the morning after I arrived (i'd been up since 1 am and got there by 5) had sushi at 7am. it was great.

had sushi late at night in a little conveyer belt joint frequented by bar girls and policemen - it seemed like the equivalent of a shitty 24 hour American diner. the sushi was ugly and no great shakes, but the experience was fantastic.

had sushi in a fairly fab conveyer belt joint near the Meiji Shrine.

loved the department store food basement sushi options! it's really cheap and really great!

have a wonderful time.

(I think if you do an internet search on sushi in japan, you'll find a whole lot of expat blogs that can hook you up right)

and i also ate in an all tofu restaurant. it was really amazing, really expensive (a friend's mom paid, thank scrod), and everything was so so so beautiful.

Fugu is awesome - depending on how it is prepared, the taste totally changes. Love it, but sooooo expensive!

When you're making your own sushi, what's the secret to stopping the nori from getting a bit soggy during the rolling and cutting process? This seems to happen even though the rice is definitely not damp.

A friend of mine uses a little bamboo mat to roll her sushi and she can even cut through that...maybe over use of hands might be causing the problem.
