I gain. Probably because on the road, a lot of the time I eat out and that means I eat more than at home, when I might just grab an apple or bowl of cereal.

I gain....probably because I feel the need to try every type of food I haven't seen before. And then, there is the greater level of alcohol consumption because no one's working, everyone wants to have a good time EVERY night.
I tried my best to buy groceries rather than eat out, keep moving, etc. but it made no difference. I didn't start losing until I was settled in one place...maybe I'd been eating more "emotionally" when I didn't know where I'd even find a bed for the night.

I generally come out even in the end. I definately eat more, trying to enjoy all the great local foods, but since I am walking far more than usual, its seems to work itself out!
I lose weight, usually. Much more walking around, hiking, etc. The only exception is London, where I do walk around a lot, but I drink a lot of beer and eat a lot of heavy meals to counter it.

I am losing weight here in South Korea like nothing else! Of course, all I do is walk and walk and then walk some more, and my room is on the fourth floor (no elevator). The food also helps - Korean food is far healthier than my normal diet at home.

The only time I gained weight overseas was in - of all places - Sudan. Civil war raging and I packed on a few kilos. Our director, who had worked there for years, insulated himself (and the group) with comfort food from home. He had a locked storage chest in his room filled with Toblerone bars and cookies & junk - he even brough pounds of butter with him. Oh the horror!
In Malaysia I fell in love with stir fried noodles, which happened to have both a sugar sauce in the stir fry mix, and lots of oil to fry it in. They used chile in a very creative way, and it was delicious.
I did little but enjoy jungle life in Taman Negara and eat stir fried noodles. I ate ice cream. I gained weight.
I lost weight in Venezuela, where they eat a lot healthier. I lost weight in Turkey, but then, I went on a tuna fish and Yogurt diet, along with chicken wings. Its not much for variety, but I did lose weight!!!
So, you can diet while travelling, if you value your health over the food of the realm, or the food of the realm is low in fat and carbs, not to mention healthy.

I've lost about 16 lbs in the 4 months we've been away. I'm veggie so find it harder to gorge myself in some places as there is so little choice but I'm hoping not to lose anymore.
It's great losing weight but the only problem is I won't keep it off when I go back home and all the clothes I'll get made up in Thailand will end up too small on me.
Most of the time I just stay the same. I might eat more than I would back home but I'm more active while travelling. Doing hikes, swimming, diving or just wandering around while sightseeing.
While in Vietnam I actually lost a bit, don't really know why. I've eaten loads.
