Now before you all start talking about the lovely health benefits of garlic, let me head you off at the pass. I know. I know that it is tasty and we all love it and it cures everything from fungus to split ends as well as warding off invading banana slugs.

I have this tiny problem -- I've become allergic to it. Any little bit of it makes my tummy grumble. It sits and plans a revolt for hours, making me the most miserable and grouchy person in the world. Antacids are no match for this foe. Nor soda water. Nor anything else that I have tried. Generally, I would avoid it and this would be of little concern.

Of course, I am going to Italy in 2 short weeks and want to eat all over the place. Is there, in your many travels, some super food that I can eat that will give garlic the comeuppance that is required? Any other thoughts on this are also appreciated.

Thank ye kindly.

I had the impression that the 'Beano' suggestion was just this side of flippant. But, but! It works! I have tested it out twice with heavy doses of garlic and not a whisper of revolt.

No side effects. I took two tablets before I ate a bowl of super garlic spaghetti and several slices of extra garlicy toast. Many hours later, I felt completely normal, which is a switch from the usual feeling of garlic revolt.

Beano. My hero. Ninja Roses

Sorry to hear about the garlic issues. I would lose my mind if all of a sudden i couldn't eat it (it goes on just about everything I eat, other than dessert . . . of course!!)

But very glad to hear about the Beano solution.

OMG, I'm allergic? I've been having those same problems, but I keep eating garlic anyway. I've been eating it since I was 2 when my parents would give me garlic bread to sht me up while they ate dinner. lol

Nope - you're not allergic! You might have an intolerance for it, or an inability to digest it, but you all aren't describing allergies (especially if beano works to help it).

I've never heard of beano, but I might need to get some for the holidays! I'm fine ... it will be for others who have made certain hints about my cooking ...

I have a friend who is allergic to garlic--I should tell her about Beano.

A friend of mine drank on New Years Eve a decent amount (nothing absurd) but took Beano with her dinner of rice and beans. She was throwing up ALL NIGHT and all the next day...so be careful when combining Beano and alcohol.

YUCK!

Some people have reactions to garlic that has started to sprout. I doubt the Italian chefs will be using the sprouting garlic. They seem to be really picky about the quality of food, which is great.

If you are cooking with garlic yourself, make sure you cut out the green part or get garlic that isn't sprouting. Hope this helps. Wine

Azdo, I never knew that. I always cut out the green bits anyway, but interesting to know.
