So, back in the day (~1992) I had the chance to eat at Taco Bell in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It was frequentend by many TCN (Third Country Nationals) who didn't speak Arabic. Or, as a matter of habbit, eat American-grade Mexican food. So the Taco Bell officials wrote a manual. Here is may favorite tidbit.

Nice! Was the burrito good? Not that Taco Bell is good, but I once went to a Taco Bell in Singapore that was pretty terrible. Don't ask why I ate at Taco Bell in a place like Singapore with awesome food on every corner, I guess I was homesick.

I really don't know. This is from a time in my life where I was not too particular or adventurous with my food. The only local food I had was a quesadillas like thing made with goat's milk cheese. And that might have been from some other culture, since the vendor's shop was in Dhahran, which is heavily populated by TCNs.

I once cooked a traditional dinner from the Southwest -- tacos!! for a French family with whom I was visiting. Even after many assurances that it would not be rude to consume the taco by holding it in their hands, they still managed to eat them with a knife and fork. Never have I seen anything like it since.
It still makes me giggle to think of it. They were just so earnest I couldn't laugh then.

If you want some authentic Mexican food in NYC, go to 103rd and Amsterdam. Theres a mexican food/pizza place, and pizza was only 1.50 for a big slice. A deal.
Their mexican food isn't bad, either.
BTW:
In Cairo, I never thought about paying big bucks for a restaurant, was never invited to an egyptians home for home cooked food(Which would have been fantastic if they were rich), so I ate at a B and W rootbeer restaurant. I only remember positively awful street food and hamburgers with root beer, which will always be fixed next to my memories of Cairo.

This is funny. Makes me try to remember how my parents taught me how to eat a taco and burrito...on the other hand...they probably just said "eat it like this" and showed me. Never thought about how you would have to explain to someone how to eat a taco and burrito.
