I have had many people tell me that after tasting fruit rippened (sp?) on the tree/bush, that it made the fruit back home taste like something wretched.

I am wondering what are some favorite fruit, vegtable, food, WHATEVER and Where is MUST be tried (country).

Yeah, that is pretty much true.

New Zealand - Local Kiwi Fruit (not the ones intended for export)
Fiji - Mangoes, Bananas and Coco Nuts (I stayed at a place on the main island that would let you pick whatever grew on the premises. Yum.)

I had some great fruit (and fruit juice) experiences in South America. Tuna (that's what they were called around Arequipa - in other parts of Peru people often had no clue what I was talking about) was one of my favorites. Basically, just go to the markets and pick up whatever fruit you don't know - you'll be in for a treat.

I loved the dragon fruit in Southeast Asia. It has an amazing color and shape - taste is pretty good too.

Since then, I've seen it around in specialty grocery stores for exorbadent prices. Best to eat your fill in Vietnam.

The apricots and cherries in Turkey are wonderful! The apricots are like the ones I remember as a kid in the US. I thought my taste had changed, but when I ate Turkish apricots, I realized that it was the apricots that changed in the US. They lost a lot to corporate farm production!

I had passion fruit gelato in Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania. Let me tell you it was something amazing. It was sweet, while having that tart POP of the passion fruit. Really good, and I believe I paid a couple of bucks for it

Peaches in Provence,

Green coconut on Zanzibar,

Mango in a hotel in Cairo (when I had no idea how to eat it--never seen one before then),

Dates in Egypt.

Many more. Some fruit which I still don't know what they are called, including something that tasted like apples (but was smaller than jambu) in Central Africa when I was overcome with homesickness and missed apples Big Grin

This post is definitely making my mouth water pretty heavily. It is also great cause my husband and I are fruit addicts and are excited to try all these on our RTW starting next month. For me it is definitely:

Peaches in Morrocco (I was young when I went and the peaches were really most of what I remember from that trip. They were soooo ubelievably juicy i remember one bite just covering me in nectar!)

Figs and Lychees in Israel

Wild blueberries hiking in New Hampshire and Maine

I went on a wild fruit tour in Cape Tribulation in Queensland with the hostel and tasted some amazing things. I remember the experience well, but not the names of the fruits.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will be looking out for acai in Brazil, custard apples from Vietnam, and lychees and dragon fruit in SE Asia. Of course markets will not be missed!

Sometimes I hate how amazing food can ruin you. I grew up on Long Island in a very Italian town (I was accused of not being Italian-enough b/c I didn't have a mustache--and yes, I'm female!) so pizza for me must be good. It was phenomenal in Italy, of course, but I regularly eat the pizza in NY. Once though, on a date, a guy ordered Dominos and I was like, "Are you kidding me?" Eating good foods spoils you and you cannot eat anything that is below the best. That guy by the way--we broke up not too longer after that, but I was able to introduce him to the amazing world of NY pizza--he couldn't believe how delicious it is.

I LOVE TO EAT!!!!!!!!
