people that squeeze your own coconut milk: I salute you.
after attempting to manually squeeze the milk out of seven coconuts myself yesterday (first and second press), I praise folks all over the world who do it as a cultural habit. I will deffinetelly turn back to buying bottled one from now on. thing is we just dont find the coconut cream - from the first press of the coconut - available here.
thais, northeastern brazilians, africans, indians... what other cultures/nationalities / ethnicities use fresh coconut milk?

Its a southern tradition when at the beach to fire up a blender and make pina colada's and other fruity drinks... but thats just an "ethnic" tradition! Signed... a southern american! Big Grin

Nah, the folks in the islandy parts of indonesia supposedly use a helluva lot of coconuts. Get a good storm... washes away all the local fruits then palm tree's spring back up.

You hear about the folks that go through those parts via boat... French Polynsians, Guam... all of them from hear say are about like that.

Wow, a hats off to people who make their own coconut shavings, too. We'd watch coconuts fall from the trees, a staff member gather a few, they'd open it up and start shaving the inside of it. Amazing.

In the Society Islands lots of coconut is used in various forms. My favorite is Poisson Cru - a wonderful fish salad made with lime and coconut milk. It's impressive to see a local climb a tree to bring down coconuts and hack off the end with a machatee. Where I live, we mostly try to avoid parking under coconut trees, they will dent the hood.
