Ok, I'm taking a stab at this being the right place to ask this question.

While traveling around Oz I carried with me some standard food items (cooking oil, salt/pepper, peanut butter, ritz crackers, cereal), in a shopping tote, from hostel to hostel. As I was never actually hiking or anything will all my stuff, this was a very practical solution to saving money on food. Once I got NZ and the climate was cooler I was able to carry butter, and even milk on short trips.

But it just occured to me, I never crossed borders with my food. The restrictions are so tight between Oz/Nz I didn't dare take my foodstuffs with me, and I was traveling for a fair bit of time in each place anyway. My upcoming trip may involve crossing several borders in under two weeks... but I'd like to be able to save $$ by carrying my staples...

Anyone have info/experience on crossing borders, by land not air, in Central Europe (Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovenia, etc) or SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore) with food??

no problems in europe or se asia whatsoever - but because food there is so cheap and so readily available you really don't have to cook/carry food with you.
