How do I get this in the states? I had some black absynthe when I was over seas and a friend is getting some of the green stuff from an army buddy. But nobody can seem to tell me how to get the black stuff shipped here. Now I'll settle for any type if I can get it. But I don't know how to get it. Got any ideas?

It's not sold here at all. I have methods of getting all sorts of banned substances, but not that one. You gotta bring some back from somewhere.

I had absinthe in New Zealand. It was like drinking 120 proof listerine. Not pleasant at all.

I don't know if this is considered the 'real' stuff, but you can buy it here, and they ship to the US, apparently: http://www.eabsinthe.com/

I think that's the store some friends of mine bought from, but I'm not positive on that.

the boyfriend of a coworker of mine was prescribed absinthe by an army doctor when he was in iraq. he's back now, and i believe he still has a constant supply of it. Crazy also, some friends of mine used dto always drive up to canada to hang out, and sometimes they'd smuggle some absinthe back - but bear in mind, we're a 2.5 hour drive from the border.

Arggg I`ve smuggled it from Canada three times and made a hefty profit off of it. Smuggling`s an interest of mine. You can make it too you know...if you`re talented chemically.

So while I don't have the "real stuff" yet. However I've got a recipe now. This is becoming a worse idea by the moment.

haha yea I was really disappointed, I thought I would be transported to some sugary, hypnotic Toulouse Lautrec or Van Gogh like world of art and decadence but was just a bunch of friends in a futile attempt to catch a buzz off some nasty liquor, like usual hehe

I'd try it again tho, maybe with some more experienced drinkers. My friends were doing shots(!) b/c the taste was so vile, can that be right??

They got their bottle hand-carried from Spain.

Mina, I have done the same thing with Absinthe... just taking shots of the stuff I have.

Funny story... last night at about 1:30am in the morning my roommate heard a loud crash in the living room and was too afraid to go out and see what it was. Well, apparently the green fairy inside of the bottles of absinthe that I have decided to jump off the book shelf and on to the floor. So strange because there doesn't seem to be any reason why they fell... it isn't like our apartment is on a slant.

Yeah, I didn't partake in it, but an ex and his stupid friends (I have a lot of angst against the guy) did something similar, and made a game out of it, sort of, just because it tasted so bad. It was like an 'I double dare you' sort of thing...I must admit I had a lot of fun just watching their expressions as they drank the stuff, while at the same time thinking they were total idiots.

There's a bar in Venice (I believe it's called Cafe Blue) that sells Absynthe by THE PITCHER. I was there with some friends last weekend, and everyone was trying to bet everyone else to get it...but everyone chickened out at the end...

i love absynthe. you can buy it here in tescos. Why is it banned in USA? You sell grain alcohol there which is like rocket fuel.

The Absinthe thatis sold nowadays is not the same potent stuff from years gone bye. It had a hallucogenic ingredient extracted from Wormwood. It sent people mad. I can't speak for the original drink, but the modern stuff is nasty. I used to run a pub in England and often talked people out of wasting their money on it. Pussers or Woods Rum was a far better and cheaper option ~ and just as strong.
IMHO Crazy

It's top notch, if you can take the taste. Then again, I love hallucinagens. It is however, THE most bitter thing I've ever tasted, at least my home brew was.

What's important is not to drink it too fast. Alcohol comes on strong and fast, and there's not any graceful way to separate the good stuff from the alcohol. If you drink quick, you'll notice little other than what it feels like to be drunk off quick liquor. If you drink over an evening, the lucid hallucinagenic qualities build up and don't abate much. The other qualities of absinthe come on slower, but also last much longer.

Yeah, I tried Absinthe in Germany a few years back--they did the whole show, burning the sugar cube so it drips into the (gaak!) absinthe..."nasty" pretty much sums it up. Since they removed and banned the wormwood, and it tastes like it does, I really have to wonder what the point is??? If something tastes like that, but gives you a nice hallucanegenic (spell check please) buzz, that's one thing. But to just taste like that with no real reward other than an unpleasant flavour that lingers...doesn't seem right. On the upside, it is a pretty green colour...
