Sell your textbooks online once your done with them instead of participating in the colleges buyback. You get way more money for them.

I used to do this via Amazon Marketplace. Worked great. For many editions, I made double or triple the paltry sum they bookstores pay. I imagine it would work on eBay as well.

I sell most of mine through half.com, which I believe is a subsidiary of Ebay. I usually buy my texbooks from there as well, and sell them for only a few dollars less than I paid (provided I don't destroy them during the term.)

It doesn't really matter where online you sell them, there are easily a couple of dozen options. The important parts are that both you and the person buying them are getting a better deal. You are not only funding your travels, you are facilitating the education of another individual, whilst sticking it to the publishing syndicates. Bad side where?

I do my business through half.com/ebay.com. Another option not mentioned yet is myspace. my college is pretty active with selling books on there.

I do buy them through the sites if I have the time to wait for them to arrive. They are much much cheaper online.

I also check out thrift stores a few weeks after the end of the semester, sometimes I find current text books. Can't get a better deal than a 70 dollar gov book for a dollar.

My college also holds book sales at various times through the year. Different clubs and groups will put them on. Once I got lucky, but I always check any time I see a sale going on.
