I am, I suppose. About 25-30% of my funds are in safe investments (i.e., checking and savings accounts that earn interest). The rest are in various mutual funds. Assuming the stock market doesn't crash while I'm traveling, I'm figuring on earning about $500-700 a month. Not enough to completely cover my expenses but it'll definitely defray them.

That was the plan. But I learned when they say it "takes money to make money", apparently the more money you have the more you make.

Example 10% return on 100 dollars is 10 dollars. 10% return on 10,000 dollars is 1000 dollars.

Closest I came to funding my travels was I daytraded a stock one morning prior to checking out of a hotel. And I didn't make enough to convince me to stay one more day. Smile

I am now dabbling in currencies(forex), but not fully live yet. And I probably won't be doing anything big for a while until I get all the kinks out of my technique and style. I have high hopes though. Until the lottery pays out that is.

disclaimer: Since I mentioned the "daytrade" word. I don't really recommend this. It takes a lot of effort and observation. What you have to do is basically become a psychologist and follow every transaction and read everyones mind. See what excites the others, and sell before they panic.
But I haven't done that in over a year now. Technical Analysis and swingtrading feels better in my opinion. For the long run.

Well this is a goal of mine as well. I have been dabbling in the Forex market but it is completely time consuming and difficult to learn. I have long been involved in Real Estate but don't have any property as of yet. A large part of me wonders if i should use the money i saved for the trip to buy now when the market is down but i can't see myself giving up this dream. I wish I knew more about stocks, etc to learn how to really make money on them but I don't.
