Well basically, i have that one job thats a curse. Heres the laydown. If your from the USA, then skip this part. In the USA we pay taxes year round on our income. then when the next year starts, we have from basically january to april 15th to file and get a refund for a certain amount. these papers get complicated. I work for a company that does this (think H&R BLOCK) and i work for a franchise owner and do all the computer work. we work hard for 4 months, and the rest of the year until like october or november, i only work 2 days a week, 3 hours a day, but still make the same amount of money because im salary. So you can see the immediate benefit of this. I just recently did a huge 33 day surfing trip to mexico, riding busses the whole way and backpacking, and i got it all PAID VACATION! The problem lies with my desire to take off for at least 6 months maybe a year, but I dont want to quit my job! Its such an amazing job and these are hard to find trust me. If was your average starbucks or something, hahaha, i would be gone in a heartbeat. WHAT DO I DO?????? cmon guys help me out please. ohh salary info, year round, gaurenteed, 1200usd a month. during the hardcore 4 months of work, i get 150usd gas paid, and all cell phone (usually 150usd). ahhhhh ... help help help

Is there anyways your 'computer work' could be done on the road? That might allow you to keep your wonderful job and hit the road for longer times. Might be worth asking the boss about it ...

I'm in the same position. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of schooling behind me but I've landed a position with one of the most amazing companies I could imagine. Also a job that would set me up for a great future.
Problem is that I really want to go do some extended travel and the most I would be able to get at this job is a month off. I think I'm going to have to put in some time so that I have earned myself re-hire status somewhere off in the future. I can definitely see myself coming back to this company for a long long time. Fortunately (depending on how you look at it) I'm also broke right now so putting in my time and gaining experience gives me a good while to earn a nice salary and put it towards a fund that would allow me to stay away for at least a year without having to seek a source of income. |

ehh. i will talk to my boss very soon about this because yes it is possibly my job could be done during the low season over the internet. i guess i would have to deticate time to checking in and all that crap though. markus, as for your situation, yea i guess we have somehow caught ourselves into a mountain of crap. i also am trying to just sit back and only do "one month" vacays until the big one finally approaches. mostly im trying to save for a vehicle that can get me around through mexico and central america to chase surf. ahhhhhh.... sometimes i love my job, sometimes no. i think i just got rehired at an old job now, so i can save up twice as fast and pay off all my crap i owe.
