So, even tho I still have 249 days til the trip, I'm selling my car today! wooooooo

The woman is bringing a bank check and her husband. If husband likes, then we get the check and they get the car... very excited.

In a month I'll be in NY, then back in Normal, IL for about 4 months until the trip. Instead of having my barely used car sitting outside all summer, I'm just going to get rid of her, take that money, and put it in a CD for come-home fund. I'll have a bike and Brian's jeep if necessary.

Yet another milestone in the trip saving process. YIPPEE

I'm in Charleston, at EIU. Just a little shout out to someone 3 hours north. Congrats!

So, what exactly are you going to do when you get home for transportation? I really want to sell my car, but I'm worried about transportation being an issue here in the Midwest. A car or a bike-able job location are really the only two options. Maybe I'll have to become a city-dweller after the trip....

well i work from home... so i generally use the car for groceries and to drive to Peoria to see my family every once in a while.

I live in a college town, so walking is no big deal. I also have a bike, and Brian has a jeep if absolutely necessary (i can't drive a stick too well haha).

Yay you!! I sold my car a few years ago to fund my move to NYC...such a great feeling to hold that check (and stop paying insurance). Wink

I used to live in the Midwest and found that they had public transporation (who knew?). Many cities have buses and, in a pinch, cab service. When all else fails, ask a friend or rent a car.

Congrats on being one step CLOSER to your RTW dreams!

I just got a car a few months ago after my POS Taurus had transmission problems, doh! But before I leave I probably wont sell it, as I need it to get everywhere... I work several different jobs that aren't really close to where I live, and my time is more valuable to me than the money from the sale of the car (if I went that way). Commuting on buses in this area seems like it'd take forever to get from point A to B.
