Has anyone actually made money through these on-line survey jobs, or do you just get a bunch of samples and coupons for things you didn't really need?

If so, which companies are the best? If you get a bonus for signing someone up, please let me know so you can get credit!

I would like to give this a try right away, but they all seem so scammy...

I take a lot of surveys, they are generally pretty entertaining... I mean, have you ever really *considered* how paper towels make you feel? Like, existentially?

Some of them are really tedious, some are really fun. The best is AC Nielsen... ever since I saw that episode of ALF where The Tanners got to be a Nielsen Family, I just had be one, too. It really was *that* cool.

While I have never actually won any major money since the reputable ones tend to offer sweepstakes entries when one participates or they send 'token' amounts of money when a survey is completed, I have won many interesting prizes and have sampled some new products before they have made their market debut.

At the moment, I have a lovely bottle of Hickory Smoke Flavored Pepper on the counter that I am supposed to use on everything for the next week so that I may record my opinion. I can officially say that if I had some tiger penis in my pantry, I might even attempt to pepper it up.

Some examples of things that I've won, just to woo you if you are interested:

50 pounds of cat food
1 pound of aloe body lotion
A luxury selection of hair care products
A bottle of Jean Paul Gaultier perfume
A variety pack of BBQ sauce
A year subscription to The Wall Street Journal
A 2 year subscription to Saveur magazine
A 2 year subscription to Outside Magazine
A $50 gift card to Borders

If you're really interested, PM me, and I'll send you a list of companies.

This thread on scam.com has a good discussion of surveys. The bottom line seems to be:

1) you can make a few extra bucks but not much

2) do not regsiter with any site that charges a fee

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. So I might give the free ones a try (though I don't know if I really want to make it easier for big companies to sell us stuff we don't really need. Hmmmmmm the ethical dilemmas we face when trying to fund our habit)

What about database input from home, and all those clerical work opportunities....anyone....?
