In a couple weeks i'm picking up a friend from the airport in Vanocuver, but we can't make the last ferry back to the island so we plan on spending the night in Van and doing some shopping the next day - does anyone know of a good, cheap hostel thats not too out of the way?
Thanks!! Smile

Hi there,

Check out this list of hostels in Vancouver. You can see where they are by clicking on the "Map & Directions" link at the top of each hostel's info page.

Ciao,
Jessie

I saw those but most of them don't have any reviews and I was hoping to hear about one that someone actually stayed at.
Thanks for the reply Smile

I stayed at the YMCA. I forget the rates exactly, but they were around $25 (US) a night, I think? For a single with no t.v., shared bathroom. I could be off.

The first room I saw had a smell and a window that you could have easily climbed through and walked around a roof on -- or vice versa, so not safe. I asked to be changed and got a different room, which was totally fine -- safe, no smell, & no frills, but fine.

"It was the most efficient campaign I have seen in my 20 years in politics." -- Sam Burrell, alderman of Chicago's West Side 29th Ward, on the phenomeal Project Vote! voter drive of 1992 which was responsible for adding 150,000 black voters to the Chicago rolls. This helped Bill Clinton and Carol Mosley Braun win Illinois in the '92 elections. The project was spearheaded by an unknown 31-year-old lawyer and community organizer by the name of Barack Obama.

I stayed at the The Cambie in Gastown and highly recommend it. It's very centrally located, there's a restaurant/bar downstairs where I met tons of nice locals. If you want quiet, the rooms we're super chill and there are small, mellow common areas.

Well, I stayed at the Pacific Spirit on the University of BC campus. If you took the bus to get there it wouldn't be too pricey (I'm not sure where the ferry terminal is there...or what the bus routes there/back would be).

It was a really decent place to stay, though definitely not a party environment. It's close to the beach, though, if it's warm enough to go for a swim.

Cambie's good and with the free pickup from the airport they had when I was there you don't even have to pick your mate up!
