Began Gap Year Trip Six Years Ago

Highly highly recommend spending some time in Point Reyes. 70,000 acres of beautiful land under the National Park Service...hikers haven.

You can stay at the Point Reyes Hostel to unwind and take advantage of this Green hostel right in the middle of the park.

4 days away felt like a 2 week vacation.

Loading pics from the weekend slowly.

Can you get there by public transit, or do you have to drive?

Not really. Golden Gate transit will drop you off at the beginning of Limantour road. It's about a 5 mile hike from there.

Its a nice bike ride though.

I was just looking at that hostel the other night, thinking of spending a few getaway days there, when the district I work for takes a spring break.

I'm checking on what the weather is like there in late March...

In general it will be nice..its really fogs up there in the summer but winters are actually pretty nice ...its will early spring and the wild flowers should be in the bloom by then.

Probably on the chillier side...although we did have a serious March heat wave a few years ago.

Going there the first weekend in June.
They've got a free summer kick-off BBQ on Sunday 6/1.

Will do, Madhu.

I might try out the Marin Headlands hostel while I'm "out there" as well, as that also gets a lot of rave reviews.

I'll let you know when I get back.

(It's this weeekend). Might hook up with a few friends from Couchsurfing while there as well.

The Pt. Reyes Hostel has a "family reunion" and a "school group" that have had it booked for some time. BUT, they also have a block of rooms reserved for HI (which they think were reserved by HI to hold as "open" for people sticking around after their BBQ).

The large groups also there may not exactly the makings of a "quiet getaway", but we'll see...they said to check things out at their free BBQ on Sunday, so we'll see....
