Me and my girlfriend are heading to Las vegas on a round the world trip and are looking for a place to stay. A few fellow travellers said to just rock up to a hotel and see what they offer you in terms of acc. Is this true or do you have to book in advanced.
thanks Matt

That is more or less true. There is a hotel room surplus except during big conventions, weekends (Thur thru Sun) and holidays.

Even then, you should have no problem.

In my experience you can lock down a lower rate, particularly during the week, if you book online sometime in advance.

I agree with Spiralout.

Also, when there are big conferences in town (ie CES this week), finding a room can be difficult. And, when you can find a room, they are two to three times the normal price. I recently went and had to pay double for a crappy room (luckily, it was for work, so not my money...but still).

Not sure what time of year you are going...right now is off season so you may have some luck. And, if you're flying from somewhere within the US, check out Southwest.com and Alaskaairlines.com, as they have vacation deals that are often awesome prices (flight & hotel, good hotels).

My brother and I got an amazing deal at the Aladdin (I think it is going to be, or already is - Planet Hollywood.)

We just turned up on the day. It was busy, and we just scraped in. But the place was great, right on the strip etc.

Only problem was the pool closed at 7pm! Confused
Probably some safety thing. But it didnt help considering it was about 35degrees C ant midnight!

Mattker: Wow, I grew up in Warrnambool! What a small world!

Why not just walk into a casino and rock the craps table? If you're good enough, and can rake in the chips, they'll surely give you a comp'd Presidential Suite.

...of course I'm joking...but ya never know...

I highly advise against walk-up booking...at least anywhere on the strip. The thing with Las Vegas is that you can't ever predict how busy the town will be. During the week you would have better luck finding a hotel with vacancy, but notice how I said vacancy and not a good rate.

Book ahead of time whenever you're planning to stay in Las Vegas. It saves you time, a hassle and the possibility of having to sleep in your car.
