Well, recommending a ski resort to SKI at is different than recommending a ski resort to WORK at.

There's all kindsa great places to ski in the USA, but most of them are VERY expensive to live near. (ie: Vail, Aspen, Tahoe, etc.)

If you wanna ski bum for a winter, you need to find a place with:
1) good skiing
2) cheap living
3) good wages

Good skiing is subjective. But bigger resorts tend to grow for a reason.

Cheap living is difficult to determine. But looking at www.craigslist.com and searching the housing listings for a town will give you an idea what rent will cost.

Good wages. Well, there are no 'good' wages in the ski industry, but wages are definitely higher in some states than others. You can check statistics for minimum wages in each state. California, Oregon, and Washington are probably the "ski states" with the best minimum wages.

All that being said: if I was gonna skibum this winter, I would go to Whitefish, Montana and work at Big Mountain. It's a cool small town with a great vibe, and even better skiing.

What about Sun Valley Idaho. I do like Vail though.

I've visited many a resort but never lived and worked at one. That said, if I was to live/work at one:

Big Sky would be high on my list as well. Although, I am not to keen on the place in low snow years.

Crested Butte would also be high on my list

I'd also contemplate Powder Mountain in Utah

I'd forget about Sun Valley
