Hi all, I'm doing a trek america tour in may/june and i'm so excited about it. I've got 2 day in new york before it-and my time there is pack full of must see's and do's (I love New York) but i've also got a day at the end in San Francisco and apart from seeing Golden Gate Bridge and having a go on the tram cars i have no idea what there is to do in San Francisco-can you suggest anything to help me fill my day?

I wanna see it all

You want the Powell-Hyde Cable Car, not any of the others.

But, other than that, what do you like to do? A visit to Haight Street, Amoeba Records and Golden Gate Park (check out the new museum!) would fill a day.

A good thing you could do in San Francisco is buy Static and Annie dinner.

There are three Cable Car lines. The Powell-Hyde line has the best ride.

Madhu too. She's too skinny.

Shortly, Anniebannie will sober up and chime in here.

Until then, read all about stuff to do in San Francisco here.

Someone page me?

There is a great SF thread here: http://boards.bootsnall.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/9400...00797216#69600797216

That has most of my recommendations. With 24 hours...If you want to see the Golden Gate Bridge, you should. You can walk across it, too. That probably takes about an hour or 1.5...the bridge itself is maybe 2 miles long. Bundle up, it is very windy on the bridge!

I would highly recommend Alcatraz. But get tickets before hand. I think that place is awesome.

But, I agree with Joe...what do you like/want to do? Are you into museums? Into shopping? Eating?

And the Powell-Hyde cable car can be picked up on Powell and Market. It costs 5$ and is very pretty. If you want a more mellow ride, the California/Van Ness will take you up California Street, through Chinatown, past Grace Cathedral, over to Polk Street, which is a pretty interesting little area.

Again, if you can let us know what you like, we can focus your day a little better. We all have our personal favorites, of course, but can help you better if we know what you want/like.

Brugal...get your tickets to Alcatraz now. It sells out quickly.

You could actually take the Powell-Hyde line to Fisherman's Wharf, where you pick up the Alcatraz ferry. That would make more sense than a cable car ride THEN GG Bridge THEN Alcatraz. If you like a nice walk, once you get back from Alcatraz, I would walk down towards Aquatic Park, pass it, walk over to Ft. Mason (there is one hill, not too long) and into the Marina. From there you can pick up the 28 bus that will take you to the Bridge. I have run this route many times and it is really pretty.

There are lots of great eateries in SF, if you are around Fisherman's Wharf, I have heard great things about Ana Mandara. In the Marina/Cow Hollow Area (area closest to the GG Bridge), my favorite is Betelnut on Union St.
