These companies exist to match drivers to vehicles that need to be driven to a number destinations. I'm considering doing this during a drive cross country in early september. Has anyone ever done this? Any feedback on positive / negative experiences?

I had a friend who did this to get himself back home from Boston to Chicago. It worked out great for him. It was a much cheaper way for him to get home since he didn't have a car. He might have even gotten paid to drive, but I don't remember the details.

I've done a few of of these, Florida/ Toronto and Vancouver Island/ Toronto. Sometimes you get a contribution towards gasoline but accomodation is for your account. I had to do an extra night over because of a mechanical breakdown (under warranty) but received nothing to compensate for the unexpected cost. Otherwise no problems.

I did a few driveaways back in High School, but luckily never got caught.

Thanks for the tips- This seems like a fun way to make a trip across a portion of the U.S. What kind of time allowances are people usually willing to give?

I meant to mention that. The times allowed are adequate but not generous. I think that I had four days from Florida to Toronto. They don't want to encourage side trips en route.
