I'm planning a trip to Boston. Can anyone reccommend anywhere outside Boston to visit? I probably don't want to go farther than 2 hours.

thanks!

Fun! There are a lot of things to do around Boston.

1. Cape Cod - about 1 hr away. Beautiful beaches, head to Hyannis - the area w/ the most restaurants, etc. Or you can take a Ferry to Martha's Vineyard, etc.

2. Plymouth - right before the Cape, visit the rock (kinda boring, it is a rock afterall) and visit the plymouth plantation for peek into life in the old days. Also you can tour cranberry bogs in the area.

3. Salem - 1 hr north. You can take the T if you want. Visit the museums, haunted houses & cemetaries while learning all about our nation Witch history. There's lots to do here and it's all pretty much walkable.

those would be the top, most centrally located spots. Don't bother heading anywhere near Worcester. You could check out Portsmouth NH, which is under 2 hours away as well. Have Fun!

Also, you can head to providence RI and Newport RI. Newport is really cool, you can tour all the mansions.

Also you can hit up 6 flags in Agawam MA which is about 1.5 hrs away and the Berkshires, if you like outdoorsy stuff. While you're in the area stop by Northampton, the coolest little town in Western MA w/ good food and a great walking area.

There's plenty to keep you busy in Boston if it's your first time!

That said, I echo the Salem suggestion. I went in the winter, tho, and was told it's a mad house other times of the year. It was a fun little walkable town, though.

Also, if you like naturey type things, take the Ferry to the Boston Harbor Islands. I did that last August. I only visited a couple of the islands, but it was a nice short trek out of the city yet you didn't feel like you were in a city at all.
