And it's only been two weeks.

I finally follow the advice of wise old men, and dedicate myself to something I love (music). So, I'm taking two classes over the summer (music technology and...something else, invovles midi) and it's boring me to tears! I guess it's a bit frustrating because I don't think I will ever really use any of it (I bet you haven't heard that one before), and it does feel like a waste of time. Ah well, at least it's cheap.

So, what do you do when yer classes bore you to tears?

When I was taking a Geology lecture, I would skip the class with two of my classmates and play pool. I became quite a pool shark Wink Back then, that is! I love Geology, but that professor was sooooo boring -- if I stayed in class, I'd throw my legs over the chair next to me and doze off. But the pool playing was a great way to relieve the boredom!

i don't know if this applies to you, but for me it seems like the more pointless a class is, the more likely it is to have a "mandatory attendance" policy. I guess professors know when they're teaching worthless information and need to find SOME way to force students to come.

Well, I happen to have a laptop and my campus has wireless internet access, so boring classes mean more time to play around on the internet Smile

It's been a while since I've taken a class...but it's gotta be hard going back.

I remember being bored in 90% of my classes; for the classes that had required attendance, I'd daydream and doodle in my notebook margins. In fact, in high school I think all I did was doodle. Once in college, I'd figure out which classes I could skip (like stats 100 -- I didn't go to a single lecture, and just read the book so I could take the tests), and which classes I had to go to. The classes you have to go to that seem worthless are the worst though!!

Uh..memories. :-) Just plod through it; it'll be over before you know it. If you have some sort of palm pilot gadget that has games on it, that would be perfect. (I just remembered that in high school I'd play tetris on my HP calculator during calculus!!). Otherwise...perfect your drawing skills!!! Write poetry! Wink

School is about jumping through hoops as much as it is about learning. Unfortunately, at the beginning, it's mostly hoops. If you stick with it you get to delve into the more interesting things. You'll get there, I promise.

Or you could go the John Mayer route and play in clubs and bars and skip the school stuff.

You have just described every one of my classes throughout high school except for english literature and gym.
Things I've done:

The Doodle-Covered an entire page in tiny little bubbles, takes about a week's worht of classes and looks pretty cool when you're done. I just spent mots of my final exam drawing me in an airplane flying to europe (because, that is just how cool I am)

The Skip- the just dont go if its boring policy is always a good one, except if there is mandatory attendance.

Entertain yourself- find little games, find a weird idiosyncracy (sp?) about your proffessor and just count how many times he/she does it or watch for it.

Class got much much better.

But, I have learned one thing.I"m taking the songwriting and composing/arranging classes. This technical jibber jabber is a bit too much for me Smile

Kanadian Kid- I just died laughing. I did all of the above in highschool. The little tiny bubbles covered my binders and I thought it was a masterpiece when I had completed the whole front and back of my binder. To keep myself busy during class a friend of mine and I used to take a random word and give ourselves a minute to see how many words we could find that rhymed with it..person with the most words wins. I'm telling you, it was pretty much the best game ever invented..kept us busy for the hour at least.

Happy to hear that everything is turning around for the better for you Chris D. We are all a little weary at first, it just takes a little to settle in. Anyways, update us on how your music schooling/career is going. I'm interested to hear.

usually when i am in a boring class i start reading the textbook from the class(if i bought it) thisd means i can go at my own pace or skip around to the things that are interesting. you also don't have to study as much .
